The Life Palace is the cell from which the other names are laid. Find it from the month and hour under the declared rules, then read the stars in that cell.

What this palace is for

The Life Palace is the centre of gravity and the way of starting: how you enter a matter, not a personality certificate.

It does not summarise the other eleven palaces. Work, money, and relationship each have their own cell. Life is only the start.

How to find it on a chart

The Life Palace comes from the lunar month and the hour branch, and it lands on one earthly branch. If the hour is unknown, stop. Do not pick the branch that looks flattering. In the Zi Wei engine here, 23:00 is late Zi, and that rule is printed with the chart settings.

Once the Life Palace is set, this site lays the names around the branch ring in this order: Life, Siblings, Spouse, Children, Wealth, Health, Travel, Friends, Career, Property, Fortune, Parents, and back to Life. The branch cells stay put. The names move. Life is the first cell in that order. Travel sits opposite it.

How to read it

Read the major and auxiliary stars in the Life Palace first. If there is no major star, borrow the one in Travel and say that it is borrowed.

Then read the trine, Wealth and Career, and only then how natal si hua mark those stars. If the Body Palace sits in another cell, do not report its stars as Life Palace stars.

Which palaces to read with it

Wealth and Career are the trine. Travel is the opposite. Those four cells are one pass over “how this chart starts”.

Siblings is the neighbor, the next cell in order, not the cause of the Life Palace.

One sentence that stays on structure

“On this chart the Life Palace is on this branch and holds this star; Travel, opposite, is where the outer setting is read; Wealth and Career are the trine for resources and public role.”

That sentence still does not state an income, a job title, or a day on which something occurs. The placement is whatever the chart tool prints.

Common mistakes

  • Treating the Life Palace as a sun sign.
  • Choosing a Life Palace when the hour is unclear.
  • Letting one star in Life cancel the other eleven palaces.

Are the Life Palace and the Body Palace the same cell?

Not always. The Body Palace is a second anchor. It may share the Life cell or sit apart. Name which one you mean.

Why do two apps place the Life Palace differently?

If the year boundary, leap month, true solar time, or star-placement rule differs, the Life Palace can move. Match the settings snapshot before comparing stars.

Is the Life Palace enough to read a chart?

No. It locates the grid. A topic question moves to its palace and brings the trine and the opposite along.
