The opposite palace faces you, six cells away, and shows another side of the same matter. The next cell is a neighbor: an adjacent domain, not “what happens next.”

What the six pairs are looking at
Life faces Travel: how you start, set against being seen away from home. Siblings faces Friends: peers set against a wider network. Spouse faces Career: a one-to-one bond set against a public role. Children faces Property: the next generation set against the house and what it holds. Wealth faces Fortune: resources in hand set against whether the mind can settle. Health faces Parents: strain set against elders and care. That is structure, not six lucky pairs.
An empty palace borrows the opposite major
When the self palace has none of the fourteen majors, the traditional reading borrows the opposite major, and the sentence has to say so. The borrowed star still sits opposite. The empty palace did not grow an invisible star of its own. A neighbor’s star does not slip into that sentence.
Wealth empty, borrowing Fortune
Illustration: Wealth has no major star, Fortune holds Tian Fu. Write: Wealth is empty and borrows Tian Fu from Fortune. Tian Fu tends to keep and store. The sentence is “read resources by way of the storing style in the inner-ease cell,” not “Tian Fu sits in Wealth.” A star in Children or Health is a neighbor, not the opposite. This is not an income forecast.
Common mistakes
- Hearing the opposite palace as an enemy.
- Leaving out the word “borrowed,” so an empty palace seems to own the star.
- Turning a neighbor into a timetable of the next event.

Do I read the opposite before the trine?
Write the self palace’s major, or the borrowed star, first. The opposite is the facing cell inside the four-palace frame. The trine is the other two. When you read them together, label which is which.
A sha star in the neighbor: is it in my palace?
It is not a co-tenant. You can say the next palace’s condition sits close. Do not say the sha star is inside the self palace.
Travel faces Life. Does that mean the person lives away?
The opposite palace is the side of going out and being seen. It is not an address. The chart does not show where someone sleeps.
