An overview of Human Design
Human Design lays two sets of activations on 64 gates. A channel exists only when both ends are present. Type, authority, and profile all come from gates that are already on. The chart has no score.

Type and authority
Type looks at whether the Sacral is defined and whether a motor reaches the Throat. Authority takes the first item that holds, in a fixed order. Neither is a grade on a personality test.

A center is defined only when a complete channel reaches it. A single gate can hang inside a center and still leave it undefined.

Profile
Profile
Profile is the line of the personality Sun and the line of the design Sun, for example 3/5. It is two line numbers. It is not a personality score and not another name for type.

Time and place are both required
The activations depend on the birth time and place. If either is missing, do not estimate a clock to fill the chart.
Count channels before you name a type
One gate alone does not make a channel and does not define a center. Reverse the order and the type follows the mistake.
A hanging gate is not yet a type
Illustration: one Throat gate is on and the opposite gate is off. Write a hanging gate, channel not formed. Do not promote the gate’s name into a type. The chart is not a diagnosis.

Does type change with mood?
No. Type comes from the channels calculated from the birth data.
Is there a total score?
No. The chart assigns no weights and does not deduct points for an open center.
Can it decide a hire?
No. Type is not a ranking of ability, and it is not a legal or employment conclusion.
