Element strength is a count after weighting. A luck cycle is a ten-year step laid on the four pillars. It asks which element is heavier in that span. It does not replace the person, and it does not price a particular day.

Count the elements after the weights
Stems, branches, and hidden stems each contribute an element, and the hidden stems are multiplied by 1, 0.5, and 0.3. Only then do you say which element is heavier. “Pattern” is a wide traditional word for naming a combination. This site prints the weights first and does not turn a pattern name into a rank.
Ten years is a step, not a new birth chart
A luck cycle’s stem and branch are laid on the original four pillars. The age when the cycles start is the age printed on the chart. A different year boundary, or true solar time switched off, can move the steps. Entering a cycle adds one pair for that span. The day master stays. Ask which element is heavier in those ten years. Do not ask it for a surgery date or a signing date.
Writing one cycle back onto the chart
Illustration: wood is already heavy, and one luck cycle prints Geng metal. You can say: metal is heavier in this decade, and metal’s ten god is read against the same day master. It is not “a career change succeeds in these ten years,” and it is not “wood is erased by metal.” An element count is not an income forecast. The person is still the original four pillars.

Is a BaZi luck cycle the same as a Zi Wei decade?
Both are traditional ten-year layers, with different arithmetic. BaZi lays a stem and branch on the pillars. Zi Wei brings a palace forward. Do not copy ages from one chart onto the other.
Is a missing element a problem?
“Missing” is a count. It is not a diagnosis of a lack. Say which element is lighter. Do not say the person is missing an organ or a capacity.
Can I compute the starting age myself?
Use the age on the report. A hand count needs the solar terms and this chart’s rules. One wrong day shifts the first step.
