Meihua splits the cast hexagram into host and guest. The host is the asker’s side of the matter. The guest is the side that meets it. Generation and control are read on those two trigrams first, not on two people’s names.

How the two trigrams become host and guest
A hexagram has an upper trigram and a lower one. Traditionally the trigram that holds the moving line is the guest, and the other is the host. Without the numbers that were cast, there is no host or guest. Do not assign them by mood. This pair is also not the BaZi pair of the same name. The word does not travel.
Generation and control are between trigrams
Host produces guest, guest produces host, host controls guest, guest controls host, or they match. Those are the element relations of the two trigrams. They describe how the two sides meet. They are not a medical or legal cause, and guest producing host is not “already won.” The sentence has to say which trigram is the host.
When the guest produces the host

It is not “already successful,” and it is not “the other person will help me.” Move the moving line from lower to upper and host and guest can swap, so check where the line sits first. Is the host always the lower trigram?
No. The host is the trigram without the moving line. If the line is in the upper trigram, the host is lower. If the line is lower, the host is upper.
What does it mean when they match?
The host and guest elements are the same. Traditionally that is two sides of one kind meeting. It is not automatically welcome.
Can Meihua’s host and guest be used on a BaZi chart?
No. BaZi uses the same words for a different pair. Here they belong only to this hexagram’s two trigrams.
