How the three-coin cast is built

Liu Yao reads one question that has already been stated. It does not use a birth chart. Three coins tossed six times build the lines from the bottom upward. Miss one toss and there is no hexagram.

What the three coins are recording

Each line is one toss. The faces of the three coins add up to old yin, young yin, young yang, or old yang. Young yin and young yang stay. Old yin and old yang move. Whether a line moves decides whether a changed hexagram appears later. The coins are not lucky or unlucky objects. They only record the toss as a line.

Six tosses, bottom to top

The first toss is the bottom line. Then the second, third, fourth, and fifth. The sixth toss is the top line. Reverse the order and the hexagram’s name changes. All six tosses are required. An older cast cannot fill a gap. The question is stated before the cast. Changing it afterward is a different cast.

A still line and a moving line

Do not recast until the result looks desirable. A coin hexagram is not a birthday hexagram. Can I toss only three times?

No. Six lines need six tosses. One missing toss is not this hexagram.

Old yang and young yang are both yang. Are they read the same?

Both are yang lines. Old yang moves and young yang stays. Only the moving line enters the changed hexagram.

Does the cast need a birth time?

No. Liu Yao uses this question and these six tosses.
