The primary hexagram is the six lines just cast. Moving lines produce the changed hexagram. That hexagram is the condition of a next step. It is not a second fate, and it does not rewrite what has already happened.

The primary hexagram is these six lines
Once the six tosses are stacked, the primary hexagram is fixed. Its name comes from the upper and lower trigrams. Say what structure it describes, then which lines move. No moving line means no changed hexagram. Do not add a moving line to make the reading look complete.
The changed hexagram follows only the moving lines
Old yang becomes yin, old yin becomes yang, and the other lines stay. The new six lines are the changed hexagram. The order is primary, moving lines, then changed. The changed hexagram is not a conclusion by itself, and the hexagram text is not news that has already happened. One cast answers the one question stated before it.
Joining the two hexagrams when one line moves
Illustration: line three of the primary hexagram is old yang. After it becomes yin, the upper or lower trigram’s name may change. Write: the primary is this hexagram, line three moves, the changed hexagram is that one. If the useful god sits on the moving line, say it walks from its state in the primary to its state in the changed hexagram. It is not “the changed hexagram rewrites a life.” The same cast also does not answer the next question.

What if all six lines move?
Each moving line changes, and the changed hexagram is still the result of these six tosses. Do not keep one line and drop the others.
Is the changed hexagram more accurate than the primary?
It is not more accurate. It is the condition after the moving lines. Without the primary hexagram and those lines, it has no starting point.
Can the hexagram text be the conclusion?
The text is a sentence from the literature. A conclusion returns to the useful god, shi and ying, and the moving lines. Do not treat the text as news.
